24 Ironman Canada Spots Up For Grabs At The Muskoka 5150

Want a chance to race at the new IRONMAN Canada venue in Whistler, BC on August 25th?

The Subaru Triathlon Series is very pleased to announce that we have 24 age group spots to give away at our Muskoka 5150 event. IRONMAN Canada has been sold out for months and this is your last chance to get to that start line. Qualified athletes must understand and follow the below procedures in order to be eligible.

Qualification Process:
Prior to race day, at least 1 spot shall be tentatively allocated to each age group category (both male and female). Final slot allocation will be determined on race day based on the number of official starters. If there are no starters in a particular Age Group, then that slot will be moved to the next calculated Age Group within the gender.

Final slot allocation shall be representative of the actual number of Age Group starters in each category in the race. For example, if 8% of the Age Group starters are Female 40-44, then 8% of the slots are allocated to the Female 40-44 category.

NEW! We will be asking all athletes wanting to qualify for an IRONMAN spot to add their name and age group to our IRONMAN qualification board during the on-site registration process. This will help us determine before the race, how much competition per spot there is or how many spots may need to go to rolldown etc. The board will be highly visible during the registration process. Please be sure to add your name under the correct age group.

IRONMAN CANADA Acceptance:
Athletes must come prepared to accept at the award ceremony.
  1. 1-Athletes MUST claim their slot in-person immediately after the Muskoka 5150 award ceremony.
  2. All athletes must have cash, traveler's cheques or a cheque for the full payment of $700 CDN or the spot will be forfeited. We can accept credit card payment however there will be a service fee of $25 applied.
If an age group that was designated a spot does not accept it then that spot will go to "Rolldown" in order of fairness. The Age Group within the gender with the largest athletes-to-slots ratio will receive the first reallocated slot, followed by the next largest ratio receiving the second re-allocated slot (if applicable), and so on.

Victoria's Duathlon - 2013 Race Preview

Kickstart Your Triathlon Season With Victoria's Duathlon!

Nothing marks the start of the triathlon season better than the Subaru Triathlon Series Victoria's Duathlon. Now in its 20th year and formerly known as "Victoria's Brick Duathlon" this race has become a classic for all those triathletes and duathletes looking to put their training to the test!

A little about the course:
Victoria's Duathlon consists of a 4km run, followed by a 30km bike and finally a 4km run. Both the bike and run courses take place over rolling terrain.  The run courses are a simple out and back, with the trip out being mostly uphill and the return trip, therefore, being mostly downhill.  The second run is a repeat of the first run. The bike is also a simple out and back course with rolling hills.  Nothing too difficult but a good challenge none the less. Most elite athletes will complete the race in approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes while the average finisher will cross the line in 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Here is a great race recap from Craig Cassar, a Get Out There Magazine reporter:

Proceeds to Victoria D'Agostino Children's Benefit Fund
We've partnered with Victoria D'Agostino Children's Benefit Fund, which is part of the Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation. This year we will donate a portion of the race proceeds to the fund. The Fund will help to build a better community, now and for generations to come, by providing special awards to elementary students in the community.  You can find out more by visiting their website here.

How Can You Register?
There are still plenty of spots lefts for this race. To register visit our website at www.TrisportCanada.com and select "Victoria's" from the race menu on the left. On this page you will also find all the race details, costs and any information you will need come race day. There are also course maps in the event you want to test out the course before the race!

Product Review: Bollé Sunglasses

Bollé Introduces 3 in 1 Lens Technology Sunglasses

Sleek new models showcase first lenses to combine polarization with anti-fog and oleophobic coatings.

Subaru Triathlon Series and Bollé have teamed up for the 2013 season and we're excited to have them on board as a series sponsor! With their exciting new product line up, we're sure all our athletes will find the perfect pair of sunglasses for race day or as casual wear.

WIN one of 2 pairs at each of our Series events this summer. Stick around for the awards ceremony and you just might win some for yourself!

For 2013, Bollé becomes the first eyewear manufacturer to offer lenses that are polarized, and have anti-fog and oleophobic coatings.  Combining these three features addresses some of the most common causes of diminished visual acuity and eye fatigue.
Bollé 3 in 1 lens technology
Optional for a broad range of styles in the Bolle Sport Lifestyle series, 3-in-1 lens technology is available in four new-for-2013 sunglasses: Speed, Swift, Smart and Vibe.  This quartet of models shares a sleek design theme intended to convey a feeling of forward motion and provide a suitably modern platform for the advanced 3 in 1 lenses.
Bollé models "Speed" and "Swift"

Bolle’s polarization technology – which dramatically reduces glare - is injected directly into the lenses. While more complicated than simply applying a polarizing film – as is the case with many other brands – embedding the technology removes any risk of delamination or decreased performance over time.
Bollé models "Smart" and "Vibe"

The oleophobic coating – which also has hydrophobic properties - guards against smudging caused by dirt, grease and water spots. Applied to the external side of the lenses, this treatment provides a protective barrier to keep the view ahead clear in all situations.

Available in a multitude of frame finishes and lens choices, all three models are all Rx-able.  On retailers’ shelves in January, price ranges between $100 - $150.

Iron Girl Expands To Canada

Today, Iron Girl announced expansion to Canada with the introduction of Iron Girl® Canada. This women's only triathlon, consisting of a 500 meter swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run, will debut on August 11, 2013 at Nelles Beach Park which is the located in Grimsby, Ontario in the Niagara Region. The Town of Grimsby is located less than an hour from downtown Toronto and downtown Buffalo.

Iron Girl Comes To Canada!
"We are pleased and honored to host this first ever Canadian Iron Girl event in Grimsby, Ontario,” said Grimsby Mayor Bob Bentley. “As one of the most historic communities in Ontario, nestled between the Niagara Escarpment and Lake Ontario, at the start of the wine route of Niagara, we look forward to showing our guests why we are a community labeled ‘Friendly by Nature’. We wish the organizers much success in support of a very worthy cause."

The event offers unique amenities such as a point-to-point swim, scenic bike and run course, custom finisher medals, awards, personalized race bibs (featuring each participant’s first name), performance shirts sized for women, post-race giveaways and much more.

“We are so excited to bring an Iron Girl event to Canadian soil,” said Judy Molnar, Vice President of Iron Girl. “The Iron Girl event experience provides women with the perfect platform for first timers and experienced athletes to reach their personal bests. Whether your first event or 100th, there is a place for all women at Iron Girl. Iron Girl provides an opportunity for women to be part of something special that supports their personal pursuits of a healthy, active lifestyle.”

Additionally, Iron Girl Canada has partnered with Degree® as the title sponsor and Shopper Drug Mart™ as the presenting sponsor of this inaugural event. Degree® is a longtime supporter of IRONMAN and this all-women’s landmark event is a perfect opportunity for the anti-perspirant brand.

“Degree Women® is proud to be the title sponsor of the very first Iron Girl Canada,” said Sharon MacLeod, Vice President of Marketing, Unilever Canada. “The Degree® brand celebrates those who push their limits and challenge themselves to do more, and this attitude is reflected in all of the amazing athletes who participate in the Iron Girl triathlon.”

Further elevating this race to “must-do” status, Degree® Iron Girl Canada presented by Shopper Drug Mart will offer a charitable component by partnering with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) as the exclusive charity. The athletes will be able to sign up on line and collect pledges for CBCF.

According to the World Cancer Research Fund one-third of breast cancers are preventable through diet, maintaining a healthier body weight and regular physical activity. Research undertaken by CBCF shows that women don’t know breast cancer risk can be reduced and that there are steps they can take to improve their breast health.

“In recent years, breast cancer mortality rates have decreased, yet incidence rates for Canadian women have remained the same,” said Sandra Palmaro, CEO, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Ontario Region. “You can reduce your risk of breast cancer by living well. And participating in the Iron Girl Women’s Triathlon is a step in the right direction.

"Having raced for 20 years in Ontario, I am proud to be part of the first ever Iron Girl triathlon in Canada and in my backyard," said Lisa Bentley, 11-time IRONMAN® Champion. "Sport has empowered me and has been my joy for half of my life and I want other women and girls to experience that same empowerment. Sport is for life and it is a lifestyle that will start with Iron Girl Canada this summer!"

Race registration will open at 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013.

24 IRONMAN Arizona Spots Available At The Peterborough Half!

There are 24 IRONMAN Arizona spots up for grabs at the Subaru Peterborough Half Iron distance event!

About The Peterborough Half Iron Triathlon
Located in Beavermead Park, the Peterborough Half Iron venue is truly amazing for both the athletes and the spectators. The course offers a 2 loop swim course in a quiet small lake (Little Lake). An out and back bike course with rolling terrain and a smoothly paved road. Depending on your strengths, the run can be challenging with an out and back down Crowley Line. The run is net uphill going out and net downhill coming back to the transition area.

Ironman Arizona is historically one of the fastest IRONMAN events to sell out. One of the only ways left to get a spot is to come and qualify at the Subaru Peterborough Half Iron Distance Event!

This is an awesome opportunity for those hoping to participate in a late season IRONMAN. Train all summer long with the Subaru Series and head to Arizona for November 17th!

The inaugural IRONMAN Arizona was held on April 9, 2005. In cooperation with the City of Tempe and the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, the race quickly gained popularity. It offered a fast and flat course, and a spectator-friendly atmosphere in and around Tempe Beach Park and Tempe Town Lake. Given the desert heat, the race was moved to a much cooler November race date in 2008.
IRONMAN Arizona kicks off with a single-loop swim in Tempe Town Lake, followed by a challenging three-loop bike course through the Sonoran Desert. It finishes with a spectator-friendly run around Tempe Town Lake and Papago Park. There are 50 qualifying slots for the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, HI.

SLOT ALLOCATION POLICY
Prior to  race day, at least one slot shall be tentatively allocated to each Age Group category (both male and female). Final Slot Allocation will be determined on race day based on the number of official starters. If there are no starters in a particular Age Group, then that slot will be moved to the next calculated Age Group within the gender. Final Slot Allocation shall be representative of the actual number of Age Group starters in each category in the race.

Athletes MUST claim their slot in-person during the designated Slot Allocation period for the event.

All athletes must pay for their IRONMAN Arizona spot at the time they accept their spot. No exceptions.

2013 Entry Fees:
General Entry: $675 USD (payable by US cash, US cheque or US travelers cheques. Sorry no credit cards accepted.)

*Athletes who wish to compete in this event must be 18 years as of race day.

2013 Refund/Withdraw Policy:
Withdrawal requests must be received in writing via E-mail to arizona@ironman.com. Without exception, all requests must be received on or before October 3, 2013 to be eligible for a partial refund of $150.00 (USD). Transfers or deferments are NOT permitted.
